The application procedure is described below. We prefer online applications (see 3a).
Should you choose to apply via the printed application form (see 3b) please make sure that you write very clearly. Some information is used for official documents such as a student ID, which has be correct.
- Give very thorough consideration as to your choice of classes. The faculty at Uppsala is able to provide so rich a summer program at such a low cost only if they receive fairly firm choices of courses from applicants.
- If you have some knowledge of Swedish, please determine your level by taking the placement test here. Write the number of right answers in the A, B or C level on the application form and choose the corresponding level on the same form.
- a. To apply online: fill in the online application form and pay the $50 or Euro 30 non-refundable application fee. The e-mail address to use when paying through Paypal, is director@uiss.org. Europeans may also pay Euro 30 to ING bank account 1811301 (IBAN: NL97INGB0001811301, SWIFT INGBNL2A) in The Netherlands accredited to N. Dorrestijn, UISS. Checks or money orders will not be accepted.
b. To apply offline: download and print the application form , complete both sides of the application form and return it to us along with 1 photograph (to be used on your student ID) and the $50 or Euro 30 non-refundable application fee. Please send this application fee with your application or pay through Paypal. The e-mail address to use when paying through Paypal, is director@uiss.org. Europeans may also pay Euro 30 to ING bank account 1811301 (IBAN: NL97INGB0001811301, SWIFT INGBNL2A) in The Netherlands accredited to N. Dorrestijn, UISS. - Please indicate on the application form the additions you would like and pay the extra cost together with your first payment.
- Do not sign up for two courses scheduled at the same time. Please use the class schedule.
- Note that Arts of Sweden, Social Institutions, Film and History of Modern Sweden will be taught in English, Swedish Pop Music will be a mix of Swedish and English. Other courses will be taught primarily in Swedish.
- Deadline for applications is May 1 for courses starting June 20, May 15 for courses starting July 4, and June 1 for courses starting July 18. The deadline for scholarship applications is March 15. The Scholarship Board will have its meeting on March 22 and applicants for scholarships will be informed about its decisions one week after that. For information about availability of places after the deadlines please contact the director.
- Upon receipt of your application, we will send you a letter of admission. Those who fulfill the requirements and who have sent their applications in time are usually accepted to the program. Sometimes courses fill up before the deadline, so please apply as early as possible. Upon notification of your acceptance, you are required to make a first payment of 5.000 SEK.
- Please note that overseas mail and payments can take up to 3 weeks. Be sure to send your application in good time.
- If you have applied to the program and cannot take part in the courses, please be so kind as to notify us of your withdrawal.
UISS Scholarships
UISS scholarships are available for a very limited number of students.
Maximum value: 10.500 SEK for the two-week session; 19.500 SEK for all other sessions. The value may vary according to need and resources and can only be deducted from UISS fees. Only students who in no other way will be able to come to Sweden are eligible for a maximum value scholarship. Partial scholarships are available for students from all other countries, who lack the financial means to pay for the program.
Criteria for selection: financial need, academic or professional qualifications, maturity, need for Swedish for study or profession, depth of interest in Sweden, its language and its culture. Scholarship recipients must agree to take a full program of courses and participate in mid-term and/or final examinations.
Other scholarships
Two organizations award scholarships, only to utlandssvenska ungdomar (students with at least one Swedish parent).
Sveriges Allmänna Utrikeshandelsförening Stipendiefond för Utlandsungdom gives partial scholarships to participants in intensive Swedish language programs in Sweden, complementary to their schooling abroad. Applicants should participate for a minimum of 4 weeks. Please click on the link above, then on their site click on Stipendiefonden and then on stipendiefonden för utlandssvensk ungdom.
